Our history

Founded by Clara Overend in 1974 as the Abbotsford Blades, our club has had a strong tradition of developing great speed skaters in the Fraser Valley. Our past members include Olympic Medalist Alanna Kraus, and National team member Bryce Holbech.

Our club is devoted to help our skaters of all ages and skill pursue excellence in speedskating.

Keven Fitzpatrick

Head Coach

Keven has been coaching speed skating in BC since 2008. Keven has had the privilage to coach at clubs across the Lower Mainland in both Short Track and Long Track speed skating, including Vancouver, Richmond, and Burnaby. Keven has coached at Provincial and National level competitions. Most recently he was the Team Manager for the TeamBC Short Track Speed Skating Team at the 2023 Canada Winter Games and Head Coach of the Zone 3 Fraser Valley Speed Skating team at the 2024 BC Winter Games. This past year Keven was the recipient of the 2024 SSBC Competitive Coach of the Year award and the innaugural SSBC Builder award. Keven also works as Head Coach of the Sardis Fliers Speed Skating Club located in Chilliwack, BC.

Samaira Nemeth

Junior Coach

Samaira Nemeth is a dedicated and aspiring junior coach, inspiring young athletes with her passion for the sport. At just 15 years old, Samaira has quickly developed a love for speed and competition. She has participated in regional and provincial events, including the 2024 BC Winter Games and the 2024 BC Provincial Long Track Championships. 
Samaira had begun her coaching journey with the completion of the Fundamental Leaders Course, enhancing her coaching skills and deepening her commitment to fostering the next generation of skaters. With her enthusiasm and experience, Samaira is poised to make a significant impact in the world of speedskating.
